WORLD SERIES 2004

By Paul Corman

"Welcome back from the break fans. If you're joining us late, I'm Bill Foster with Dick Davies and you're listening to us on live radio, for what could be the final game of the 2004 World Series."

"It's been a pretty exciting game so far Bill. It's the current champs, the Texas Oil Kings, fighting it out with the Boston Old Boys. We're in the bottom of the 9th and the score is 1-0 for Boston. It's still anybody's game."

"You're right there Dick. Boston is taking the field. John 'Slow Ball' Kerry pitching for them. He's a lefty who throws like he's a right hander. And of course Texas has George W Bush, who led them to a win, in the last playoffs."

"Bush is a classic right hander with lots of folksy style. Popular with the good old boys back home. Unfortunately so far this season he's thrown a lot of wild balls that have gotten the team in real trouble."

"First batter for Texas is Saddam Hussein. Saddam had a rough year."

"That's right Bill. Texas brought him up from the minors claiming he was a really big hitter. One of those guys with a bat that could blow the lid off the park. Unfortunately when it came down to it, Saddam just didn't have it. Here's the pitch. Strike one. John Edwards catching for the Boston team."

"Dick, I think Sadham had some good years with the Baghdad Bullies. He was their top hitter. Texas put a lot of money into him and they want to get it back. But lately he's been fighting his way out of a hole. Here's the wind up. The pitch. Strike two."

"Let's not forget, though, Kerry has a reputation for waffling when it comes to dealing with guys like Sadham. A lot of old teammates have badmouthed him over that lately.

"Here's the pitch. Sadham gets a nice hit into right field. Jimmy Carter picks it up and throws it in. The batter is safe on first. Next up is Osama Bin Laden."

"This guy has done some real damage, during his career, Bill. Last time we saw him in action he had a couple of hits that carried Texas to the top of their league. He hasn't played much this season. Rumor has it, he's been saving himself for the series."

" Dick, I think anyone who counts this guy out is kidding themselves. He's a tough competitor with lots of experience and some pretty spectacular wins in the past. I see Bin's family is in the stands. I count four wives. I guess that's all the tickets they could get."

"The pitch. A line drive past Al Gore on first base. Foul ball. That looked good but the umpire called it out. Bin broke his bat on that one. Young Tony Blair, the bat boy, brings him out a new one."

"Umpire Pete le French has made some controversial decisions this season. Texas has filed a record number of complaints about the officials. Boston seems a little happier with them, but still feel the Umps have way too much discretion."

"The pitch. Bin gets a piece of it back into the Texas dugout. Oh, that was nasty. Coach Dick Cheney wasn't paying attention and took the ball right in the face. Dick's family is in the stands too. His wife doesn't look too happy but his daughter seems OK. She's hugging the girl beside her."

"Here's the pitch. Bin Laden bunts. Edwards picks it up and throws to Al Gore on first. Gore throws the ball to Rev. Jesse Jackson on second trying for a double play. Saddam is safe on second. A great sacrifice by bin Laden."

"One away. Bottom of the ninth. A runner on second. Next batter is Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Groper has had a pretty good season for a rookie. Some players have accused him of being too physical. But that doesn't seem to have hurt his popularity."

"Here's the pitch. Strike one. Arnie looks confident. He's smiling and waving at the crowd. Kerry throws the ball. Strike two."

"Texas fans are going wild. A home run now and the game is over. Here's the pitch. The swing. He's out. The Groper goes down. That's it for Schwarzenegger."

"Well Bill, I guess he won't be back!"

"Next batter is the Texas pitcher George W Bush. Bush is one of the most popular players in the game with fans in trailer parks all across the nation. He's at the plate. What's this? He's calling time out."

"George is praying. Now Kerry has gone down on one knee. This is really moving Bill. This is the kind of moment that makes baseball the greatest game in the world."

"Looks like the players are ready to play again. Kerry is looking nervous. Nobody in baseball history has made more errors than Bush. Still he knows how to strike an intimidating pose. Two out, bottom of the ninth. Boston leading 1-0."

"Kerry throws a wild pitch. Edwards pulls off his mask and goes after it. He throws to Bill Clinton on third, but bin Laden is safe on a steal. I don't think I've ever seen a more exciting inning. Bill, I know it sounds silly but I feel like the future of baseball rests on the outcome of this game."

"Kerry winds up. Here comes the pitch. Bush gets a good solid hit. It's a high fly ball into centerfield. It's going, going. It's over the fence."

"No wait the center fielder is jumping up. His glove is out. He's reaching into the stands. He's made the catch. Center fielder Michael Moore makes the catch. The game is over. Kerry wins the World Series for Boston."
